An important question when choosing a pillow or lightweight duvet.
As you may already know, or at least have noticed, goose down has a more prestigious image and higher value compared to duck down. According to industry experts and IDFL - the world's largest down and feather institute, goose down is usually of better quality than duck down.
This is especially true for high-end goose down, while high-quality duck down can be better than mediocre and, of course, low-quality goose down. This is because high-quality down comes from more mature and larger animals (be it ducks or geese) and is larger and more durable.
And how do we know which down is of high quality and which is not?
It's very simple. Use the main quality parameter of down - its fill power - to compare it with another. Click here to read our article "Fill Quality and Fill Power" and learn how to compare different down fillings and what information you should request from your supplier.
Is there a big and significant difference between duck and goose down?
The answer is NO! Both types of natural down provide the same insulation (with the same quality of fill), they are light and fluffy, and have the same essential structure that makes them the best insulators known to man.
