Care guide
How to wash down pillows.
Taking care of your down products is really easy.
Proper care of #Poohy products can prolong the feeling of brand new and fluffy duvets and pillows. Maintaining and washing the products is easy even at home. Washing your goose down duvet or pillow enhances the feeling of it being as fluffy as when it was new, something you won't find with products with synthetic fillings.
Recommendations:
- Use covers or protectors. To extend the period of use, use covers that will protect the products from dirt, dust, mites and water. This will also reduce the need for washing and it will be enough to do it every 2-3 years (if there is no other reason).
- Before cleaning, make sure your duvet or pillow has no holes. If you find a hole, patch it with a needle and thread (or give it to a seamstress), because otherwise you risk losing the priceless filling in the washing machine.
- Use a specialized detergent for goose down. It is best to use a special down detergent when washing, which preserves the properties of the down for a longer period of time. If you are using regular detergent, it is best to use a mild one, without enzymes, and rinse at least once more to make sure that the detergent is completely removed.
- Do not use fabric softener when washing. It creates a layer on the down filling and thus reduces the insulation and swelling properties.
- Shake and aerate pillows and duvets regularly.
1.Stain cleaning:
To remove stains without washing the entire product: Pinch the cover from the filling, wet the stained area and work with a small amount of detergent until a lather forms. Leave overnight for the detergent to work its cleaning properties. Rinse off the detergent and let it dry completely before using.
2.Washing in the washing machine
Caution: Only wash products in washing machines that open from the side and not from the top, as washing machines that open from the top run the risk of duvets wrapping around the agitator and being damaged. Make sure the capacity is large enough to accommodate the duvet, leaving free space around it, as down holds a lot of water and the weight of the wet product can weaken the balance and damage your washing machine. Add about 1/3 of the amount of detergent you usually use for washing, to make it easier to rinse it out later without damaging the filling. We recommend washing on a program for delicate clothes (for example wool), at a temperature no higher than 40˚C.
3.Drying
- In a dryer: Dry the products in a large tumble dryer on a low to medium heat. To help the filling fluff up and dry better, you can alternatively add some of our wool dryer balls. Take the duvet or pillow out after 25-30 minutes to check the temperature. If it is too hot to the touch, then the temperature is too high and you need to reduce it. We take it out every half hour to untangle the wet down inside with our hands and help it spread evenly. The drying process is time-consuming and depending on the size can take up to 5-6 hours for larger duvets.
- Outdoors: You can dry down products naturally, but it is important to choose the right weather conditions - it is recommended to do this on hot summer days.
Drying down products outdoors in cold and humid conditions is not recommended! Drying may not happen quickly enough and the filling may go moldy!
Do not expose the goose down duvet to direct sunlight.
Hang on a clothesline or rope, avoiding continuous direct sunlight for 3 to 4 hours, then unhang and untangle the wet down with your hands to spread it evenly. Do this at least 2-3 times a day. You may need to repeat this process within 2-3 days until it is completely dry.
When drying, while the down is still wet, a slight odor may sometimes appear. Don't worry, this is completely normal and happens with almost all natural materials. When the product is completely dry, the odor will disappear.
The appearance of odor can also occur in humid and hot weather. Even if it happens extremely rarely, this should not worry you, air the blanket or pillow for an hour or two. If the odor does not disappear, wash and dry thoroughly.
Before use, it is important to make sure that the filling is completely dry to avoid mold. To check: hold it up to the light and look for lumps of wet fluff. If there is still any - continue drying in a well-ventilated area until completely dry.
Of course, you can take your goose down duvet, pillow or mattress topper to a professional dry cleaner, just make sure they have experience with such products first.
Storage. It is good to have cases made of thick, breathable fabric for storing your pillows and duvets. Store in a dry and ventilated place. We advise you not to store your duvet or pillow in a storage bag for at least a week (even a month) after washing to ensure that it is completely dry. When you take it out again in the fall for use, shake and air it well to fluff it up.
Bed linen care guide:
We recommend washing at 30 °C or 40 °C. Wash with similar colors.
Tumble dry at medium temperature.
Since our fabrics are natural, made of cotton, bamboo and silk, the rule is to wash at the lowest possible temperature to preserve the colors for longer. Also, washing at higher temperatures (60 °C and 90 °C) will further shrink the fabrics.
Do not use bleach on colored pillowcases, sheets and duvet covers.
Ironing should also be done at the appropriate temperature for each material.
